Cons

"Skatey" in more powerful surf

These days, surfers are demanding more out of their surfboards. Often overheard is the intangible requirement of allowing an average surfer to feel confident in most conditions. Along comes the NDR by Surf Prescriptions to help fulfill that requirement. The NDR Quad has a fuller outline than a regular short board and because of what can only be described as "hidden volume" can be ridden around 4 - 6 inches shorter than a normal short board shape. This allows for maximum drive while still performing, and sometimes out-performing your regular short board in less than average to good quality surf. The wide sweet spot and user friendly feel was designed to have you surfing better and faster in everyday conditions. And when the waves get good, you'll be flying.

The Board

Dimensions & Material

We tested the 5'8"H x 19 1/2"W x 2 1/2"T Standard Polyurethane Model. Extra volume forward for ease of paddling and wave entry while still allowing for fast and radical surfing.

Bottom

The bottom on this version of the NDR Quad is a single to double concave

Tail

We tested the NDR Quad with a wide, slightly rounded off swallow tail, but the board itself can be shaped with any tail type the rider prefers.

Nose

Wider nose than a standard short board, more volume forward.

Fins

We tested this board with Futures quad setup "V2 F4". Overall this setup seemed great for this board. These fins allowed for the board to feel drivey yet loose.

Paddling

The Surf Prescriptions NDR Quad paddles really well, stable and floaty. I didn't get arm burn as fast as I normally would with this small of a shape. You will get that kind of fishy style feeling from paddling this board. Flatter rocker and full outline allows the board to feel glidey and smooth on the water when paddling for waves or just up and down the line up.

Catching

The board shape will coast into waves like that of a wider fish style board, you can actually feel the wave pick you up a bit early due to the low entry rocker. Also the board is really stable down the face, even on late drops. Because the NDR Quad is such a fast spunky board from the take off, you are not limited like you normally are on a "fishy" style board, you kind of get the benefits of that early entry fish feeling with the performance of a good short board.

Riding

Tons of spunk and drive right out of the gate, the quad setup on this board allows for immediate speed once you are on your feet and driving. The board has a somewhat "skatey" feel but can hold rail if needed due to the drawn out rail line and swallow tail. A great feature of this board is its ability to get back to the wave if you race too far on the shoulder. The rail line really seemed to pull me back toward the pocket section of the wave when I would throw a big cutty, even in a flatter part of the wave, which is really nice and allowed me to connect sections easier than a standard short board.
Also this board floats over sections really nicely and felt super stable on big turns. Off of the closeout, the NDR held really well and felt glued to my feet, even on juicier than average waves. Another great thing about the performance is the wider than average sweet spot, if you don't get up to your feet in the perfect spot the board still goes and feels great. The NDR will give you that friendly fun feeling and still allow you to huck it around.

Conclusion

Speedy, rippable, fast, and loose pretty much sums up the NDR Quad. This board gave me the feeling that I was well taken care of and gave me the confidence to make most any wave. More specifically, the NDR will gave me the confidence to catch smaller, mushier waves, while still retaining good style, speed and fluidity. Overall the NDR Quad is a nice addition for most intermediate to advanced surfers looking for a speedy and fun little board on those poor to fair days.
