New surfboard constructions are popping up everywhere with the promise of improved performance and durability. Among the companies developing new surf materials and board constructions, Surftech has added a new design to the line up with ULTRAFLX. We got a chance to test out the ULTRAFLX with the ...Read more
There was a nice little Headhigh + swell running through San Diego and I immediately waxed my new board anticipating a great session the next Morning. I paddle out at "Pipes" in cardiff at 7 a.m. the next morning and caught a nice little right, made a couple of pumps then got dropped in on. Fair enogh... paddling back out I took a set wave on the head and had to duck dive pretty close to the impact zone. I lost grip of the baord while resurfacing and while grabbing it to get on it and face the next wave I got a nasty little pinch to my left index finger! Huh?
Then I realized the board had SNAPPED !! Wha?? Duckdiving ?? Headhigh semi mushy beachbreak type surf! No Way! Okay.... so there is a serious flaw in the construction of the "Ultraflex" series as a whole or I got a lemon. A brand new board 3" thick should not snap duck diving 30 minutes into the first session in average surf... I dont think.
Okay so I got into Surf Ride and John Ennis (store manager) says he will get right on it, and he did. He CC's me on an email he sent to the Surftech Rep "Haji" to replace a board he considered as a "defective product".
It has been a week since John contacted "Haji" and there hasn't been any word from the rep. Surf Ride (the shop where the board was purchased) has been helpful and responsive. I sincerely hope Surf Tech will stand by its product and replace the board with a non defective version.
I will keep Blue Safari Posted.
Happy New Year
